Assuming the best
It’s scary. If you’re wrong, you get hurt. You can’t tell others “I warned you”. And you will definitely get ripped off or hurt sometimes.
So why bother?
Because vulnerability is essential to making good art. And vulnerability only happens when you decide the other person is trustworthy. And nobody is trustworthy all the time (just ask my wife how consistent I really am 😂).
So you roll the dice and assume the best of intentions. Because that’s the only option when you want to make something together.
. . .
(And the good news? If you’re wise about picking who you work with, you’re usually going to be correct in assuming the best.)
