Distractions

When musicians start playing music, we start with a deep love for music, and nothing else.

Then we get sidetracked somewhere in the journey with the way we’re perceived, our own egoic tendencies, with ambitious ideas about the future, with hurt from the way the industry works, with paying the bills, etc.

But if we can resist the temptation to focus on the distraction, all we’re left with is the deep love that started us down this path in the beginning.

The job of every musician is to chase the discipline of following that deep love each day, and to only let the distractions in as briefly as possible.
