Opportunity
A buddy and I were talking yesterday about how you could find Rhodes keyboards (now worth easily over $2,000 each) for $300-$400 in the used section of most Guitar Centers in the 90’s. Same with the legendary Juno-106 synths. I remember seeing one in the early 2000’s in a corner of the keyboard section for $200. They’re now worth 7x-8x that.
The logic for the deep discounts were that you could now buy keyboards with hundreds or even thousands of sample-based presets that covered every genre. In contrast, a Rhodes electric piano basically has 4-5 different sounds, and that’s being generous.
Opportunity is easy to see in hindsight. And really difficult to see in the present.
