Standing out
Building on yesterday’s post, here’s a few ways to stand out in a noisy world:
Be really insanely great at what you do (surprisingly few people actually prioritize this)
Show up consistently for a really long time
Figure out what you offer that’s valuable in the market, and highlight that skill
Act with high integrity all the time (or, be the person people can rely on to do the right thing when it’s the hard thing)
Show over and over what you can do
Focus on serving the needs of others with your work
Do lots and lots of self-development so when you show up, it’s your healthiest, most authentic self
There’s no guarantees this will work (if you’re in music, you’re in an insanely competitive business so your odds go down) but it’s a start.
(Also, note that “being picked” by someone important isn’t on the list. That may happen, but it’s a byproduct of standing out, not a cause.)
