MainStage Mondays: Adding A Master Limiter

We’ve all had that moment onstage when our output level jump from quiet to ear-searing for no apparent reason. There’s a lot of reasons why this could happen (I’d be happy to set up a consultation with you if you need in-depth help with this problem) but the best solution is putting a “brick-wall” limiter on your master output. Here’s how to do it:

1. Open MainStage. Select a template, or open one of your projects.

2. Under Patch List in the LH corner, click on the orange folder.

3. Under Channel Strips on the RH side of the screen, find output 1-2. Insert the limiter plugin (note: DO NOT put in the adaptive limiter-it’ll make your audio super laggy).

4. Set your limiter like this:

Now when your audio gets to dangerous output levels, it’ll be reduced (and sometimes distorted) to a safe level.
